Jayasudha Kapoor, whose birth name is Sujatha Nidudavolu, is a well-known Indian actress and politician. She is famous for her work in Telugu and Tamil films. She has also acted in a few films in Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi languages.

Jayasudha is often called a "natural actress" because of her realistic performances. Over her career, which has lasted more than 50 years, she has won many awards. These include nine Nandi Awards and five Filmfare Awards South. She also received the ANR National Award in 2008 and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award - South in 2010. From 2009 to 2014, Jayasudha served as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Secunderabad area in Andhra Pradesh.

Early Life and Family

Jayasudha was born as Sujatha Nidudavolu in Madras, Tamil Nadu, on December 17, 1958. Her family spoke Telugu. Her father was Nidudavolu Rameshwara Rao, and her mother was actress Joga Bai. Joga Bai was known for films like Balanandam and Kalahasti Mahatyam.

Her father's first cousin was the famous Telugu film actress and director Vijaya Nirmala. Jayasudha's grandfather, Nidudavolu Venkatarao, was a respected scholar and historian.

Marriages and Children

Jayasudha's first marriage was to film producer Vadde Ramesh, but it ended in divorce. Later, in 1985, she married Nitin Kapoor. Nitin Kapoor was a cousin of the actor Jeetendra. Jayasudha and Nitin Kapoor had two sons, Nihar (born in 1986) and Shreayan (born in 1990).

Political Journey

In 2009, Jayasudha was elected as an MLA from the Secunderabad area. She won this seat in the 2009 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections as a member of the Indian National Congress party.

After her term, she joined the Telugu Desam Party in 2016. In 2019, she left the Telugu Desam Party and became a member of the YSR Congress Party. Since 2023, she has been a part of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Acting Career

Jayasudha began her acting career at the age of thirteen. Her first film was the Telugu movie Pandanti Kapuram in 1972. The famous director K. Balachander gave her a small part in the Tamil film Arangetram. In this film, she acted alongside Kamal Haasan.

She acted in many Telugu and Tamil films, often directed by K. Balachander. Some of these films include Sollathaan Ninaikkiren (1973), Naan Avanillai (1974), and Apoorva Raagangal. She also starred in Idi Katha Kaadu with Chiranjeevi. She changed her name to Jayasudha because there was already another actress named Sujatha.

Rise to Stardom

Jayasudha gained attention with her first lead role in the Telugu film Lakshmana Rekha (1975). However, it was her main role in Jyothi (1976) that made her a big star. Jyothi was a remake of the Hindi film Mili, which starred Jaya Bhaduri.

After Jyothi, many people saw her as the next great Telugu actress, following in the footsteps of Savitri. She played many strong characters and showed a wide range of acting skills. She earned the title "Sahaja Nati," which means "natural/realistic actress."

Jayasudha also starred in successful commercial films. One of her biggest hits was Adavi Ramudu (1977), which broke box office records. She has acted in over 300 films. In one year, she even had 24 films released! She created her own special place in the Telugu film industry, even with strong competition from other popular actresses like Sridevi and Jayaprada.
