Jaylon Tate (born January 16, 1995) is an American professional basketball player. He plays as a point guard for Szedeák in Hungary's top basketball league, the Nemzeti Bajnokság I/A. Before becoming a professional, Tate played college basketball for the University of Illinois.

High School Basketball Journey
Jaylon Tate started his high school basketball career at De La Salle Institute. After two years, he moved to Simeon Career Academy. At Simeon, he played alongside talented teammates like Jabari Parker and Kendrick Nunn.
Together, their team won two state championships in a row. These were the Illinois High School Association state championships in 2012 and 2013. In October 2012, Jaylon decided to play college basketball for the University of Illinois. He also played for an AAU team called Meanstreets.
College Basketball Career
At the University of Illinois, Jaylon Tate showed his skills as a point guard. In his second year, he led his team in assists. Assists are passes that lead directly to a basket. In his final year, he was best at his team's assist-to-turnover ratio. This means he made good passes without losing the ball often.
During his third year, Jaylon had surgery on a dislocated finger. Despite this, he was named to the All-Academic Big Ten team in both his junior and senior seasons. This award recognizes student-athletes who do well in both sports and academics.
Professional Basketball Path
After college, Jaylon Tate began his professional basketball career. In October 2017, he joined the Niagara River Lions in Canada. This team is part of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC).
Rookie of the Year Success
After his first season in the NBLC, Jaylon was named the Rookie of the Year in 2018. He was a top player, leading the league with 7.53 assists per game. He also scored an average of 13.1 points per game. Because of his great performance, he was also chosen for the Third Team All-NBLC.
Playing in Europe and the G League
In July 2018, Jaylon moved to Finland to play for Pyrintö in the Finnish Korisliiga league. He later played for the London Lightning in Canada during the 2019–20 season.
In October 2021, Jaylon joined the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G League. This league is a development league for the NBA. He later played briefly for the South Bay Lakers in the same league. In January 2022, he returned to play for the London Lightning again.
Most recently, in December 2024, Jaylon Tate signed with Szedeák. This team plays in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I/A, which is Hungary's top basketball league.
