Jean-François Bazin (born July 26, 1942 – died April 17, 2020) was a French politician, journalist, and writer. He was known for his work in journalism and his long career in local and regional politics in Burgundy, France. He also wrote many books, especially about the history and culture of Burgundy.

Jean-François Bazin's Life and Career
Jean-François Bazin started his career as a journalist in 1966 in Dijon, working for the newspaper Les Dépêches. He also was the main editor for the weekly newspaper La Lettre de Bourgogne for 30 years, from 1973 to 2003. He wrote for other important newspapers like Les Echos and Le Nouvel Économiste. He also worked with the radio station France 3.
From 1968 to 1989, Bazin worked for the University of Burgundy. He also taught as a professor at Stanford University in the United States from 1995 to 1999.
Bazin helped create the Museum of Arts and Traditions of the Hautes-Côtes in Reulle-Vergy. He was the museum's curator from 1974 to 1992. He also played a part in developing high-speed train lines in France, like the SNCF TGV Sud-Est and the LGV Rhin-Rhône. He wrote books about these projects, including Les Défis du TGV (1981) and Le TGV Atlantique (1988).
Bazin's Political Roles
Jean-François Bazin was very active in politics. He was a member of the Regional Council of Burgundy from 1978 to 2004. This council helps manage the region. He also served as a Municipal Councillor for Dijon, his hometown, from 1971 to 2008. From 1995 to 2001, he was the Deputy Mayor of Dijon.
He was also involved in European politics, serving on the European Committee of the Regions from 1994 to 2002. This committee gives local and regional leaders a say in European Union laws. He was also Vice-President of the Assembly of European Wine-producing Regions and President of the Estates General of French Gastronomy. He was a member of the Rally for the Republic political party.
Family and Later Life
Jean-François Bazin lived in Gevrey-Chambertin and Dijon. He married Irene de Vernisy in 1965, and they had three children. Jean-François Bazin passed away in Dijon on April 17, 2020, at the age of 77.
