Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre (born February 2, 1977) is a former professional ice hockey player from Canada. He played as a defenceman. Today, he works as a studio analyst for the Columbus Blue Jackets. You can see him on Bally Sports Ohio.
He was chosen by the St. Louis Blues in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. This happened in the seventh round. He was the 179th player picked overall. Jean-Luc once won a speed skating competition. This was at the AHL All-Star Game. He even beat famous players like Martin St. Louis.

Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre's Hockey Journey
Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre started his professional hockey career in 1997. He played in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the Rochester Americans. In his first season, he had 10 points. He also had 211 penalty minutes in 75 games.
Playing in the NHL
In the 1998–99 NHL season, Jean-Luc made his big debut. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Buffalo Sabres. He played 16 games that season.
He continued to play for the Sabres in 1999–2000 NHL season. Then, he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets. This happened during the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft. Jean-Luc played three full seasons with Columbus.
During the 2003–04 NHL season, he played for a few teams. He split his time between the Blue Jackets, the Atlanta Thrashers, and the Washington Capitals. In his NHL career, Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre played 269 games. He scored 7 goals and made 13 assists.
Playing in Europe
After his time in the NHL, Jean-Luc moved to Germany. He played for the Füchse Duisburg team in Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). This was during the 2005–06 season. He then joined the DEG Metro Stars for the 2006–07 season.
In 2007, he signed with the New Jersey Devils of the NHL. However, he spent that whole season in the AHL. He played for the Devils' AHL team, the Lowell Devils. In 2008, he went back to play for Duisburg in Germany.
On July 20, 2009, he signed a one-year deal. This was with Leksands IF in Sweden. They play in the second-tier league, HockeyAllsvenskan. He was also loaned out for 10 games. This was to Stjernen Hockey in Norway's GET-ligaen.
In 2010, he played briefly for HC TPS in Finland. This was for tax reasons. He played for them until October 15, 2010.
Jean-Luc left the Leksands IF team in September 2011. He then signed a one-year contract. This was with the Malmö Redhawks in Sweden. He finished his playing career in 2013.
Life Outside of Hockey
Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre has family roots in Haiti. He is a cousin of Georges Laraque. Georges Laraque was also a professional hockey player. Another cousin, Jules-Edy Laraque, played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
After his hockey career, Jean-Luc became a real estate agent. He is licensed in the state of Ohio. He works for HER Real Living and The Raines Group.
On January 4, 2024, Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre became a citizen of the United States.
