Jean-Michel Cadiot (born December 23, 1952 – died June 1, 2020) was a French writer and journalist. He spent his life telling stories and reporting on important events.

Jean-Michel Cadiot was born in France. His father, Robert Cadiot, was an engineer who studied at a famous French school called École Polytechnique. His mother, Odile Gay, was a professor who taught ancient Greek and Latin languages.

His Education and Early Career

Jean-Michel Cadiot studied many interesting subjects. He earned a degree in Chinese from Paris Diderot University. He also took classes in economics, which is about how money and goods are made and used, and theology, which is the study of religion.

He started his career working for Christian magazines. Later, in 1979, he became a correspondent for the Agence France-Presse (AFP) in Baghdad. A correspondent is a journalist who reports from a distant place. The AFP is a big news agency that collects and shares news from all over the world.

Working as a Journalist

In 1981, Jean-Michel Cadiot joined the AFP team in Paris. He traveled a lot for his job, working in different cities like Rennes and Brest in France. He also worked in other countries, including Tehran (the capital of Iran) and Bucharest (the capital of Romania).

He was also involved in helping people. He was the Vice-President of an organization called the Association for Mutual Aid to Eastern Minorities. This group worked to help smaller groups of people in Eastern countries.

Jean-Michel Cadiot also tried to get involved in politics. In the 2007 French legislative election, he ran to become a Deputy. A Deputy is like a member of parliament in France, who helps make laws for the country. He ran with a political group called the UDF-MoDem. He ran in a specific area of France called Val-d'Oise's 8th constituency.

Even though he tried, he did not get enough votes to win. In the first round of the election, he received about 3.32% of the votes. He also ran in another local election in 2008, but again, he did not win.

His Later Life

Jean-Michel Cadiot passed away on June 1, 2020, when he was 67 years old. He is remembered for his work as a writer and a journalist who reported from many different places around the world.
