Jean Hager (born June 2, 1932) is an American writer. She is famous for her exciting mystery books and sweet romance novels. She also wrote stories for children! Jean Hager used different names for her romance books. These other names are called pseudonyms. Some of her pseudonyms include Jeanne Stephens and Leah Crane.

Becoming a Writer
Jean Hager went to several universities to study. She attended Oklahoma State University from 1950 to 1953. Later, she went to the University of Tulsa from 1964 to 1966. She earned her bachelor's degree (B.A.) from Central State University in 1969. She also did more studies at the University of Oklahoma in 1969 and 1970.
After finishing her studies, Jean Hager taught high school English. She taught from 1970 to 1974. In 1975, she decided to become a full-time writer. This means she spent all her time writing books!
Her Mystery Books
Jean Hager wrote three main series of mystery books. Two of these series are about modern Cherokee life in Oklahoma. These stories feature special characters who solve mysteries.
Meet the Detectives
One of her Cherokee mystery series stars a police chief named Mitch Bushyhead. He works to solve crimes in the Cherokee Nation. The other Cherokee series features a civil rights investigator named Molly Bearpaw. She helps people with their rights and solves puzzles.
The Iris House Mysteries
Jean Hager's third mystery series is set in a different place. It takes place at Iris House, which is a bed and breakfast in Missouri. A bed and breakfast is like a small hotel where you can sleep and eat breakfast. In this series, the main character is Tess Darcy. She is an amateur detective, meaning she solves mysteries for fun, not as her job.
Awards and Recognition
Jean Hager has won many awards for her writing. She won the Oklahoma Writers Federation Teepee Award five times! This is a big honor for writers in Oklahoma.
In 1982, she was named Oklahoma Writer of the Year. This award recognized her great talent and hard work. In 1992, she was inducted into the Oklahoma Professional Writers Hall of Fame. This means her work is considered very important and lasting.
