Jeanne Betancourt is an American writer born on October 2, 1941, in Vermont. She is well-known for writing books, especially her popular Pony Pals series. She has also written scripts for television shows.

Her Life Story

Jeanne Betancourt grew up in the countryside of Vermont. Her home was right across from a dairy farm. This farm and the quiet country life later inspired many of her stories.

When she was a kid, Jeanne didn't plan to be a writer. She loved to dance and studied tap dance. Later, she decided to become a religious sister in high school. After graduating, she moved to Rutland, Vermont. There, she joined the Sisters of St. Joseph, who were a group of teaching sisters.

Education and Early Career

In 1964, Jeanne earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of St. Joseph. Later, in 1974, she earned a Master of Arts degree in film from New York University. Her first published work, Women in Focus, was based on her master's degree project.

After leaving the Sisters of St. Joseph, Jeanne moved to New York City. She taught at a public high school there. She got married and had a daughter named Nicole.

Becoming an Author

Jeanne Betancourt started writing children's books in 1982. Her first book was called SMILE! How to cope with braces. She wrote it when her daughter Nicole had braces. Soon after, she became a full-time author.

Today, Jeanne lives in New York City or at her home in Connecticut. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, oil painting, gardening, and reading.
