Her first movie role was in the film Basic Instinct (1992). She also starred in popular movies such as The Firm (1993) and Waterworld (1995). On television, she played Barbara Henrickson in the HBO series Big Love (2006–2011). She also appeared as Dr. Alex Blake in the CBS show Criminal Minds (2012–2014). Jeanne Tripplehorn was born on June 10, 1963. Her hometown is Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her father, Tom Tripplehorn, was a guitarist. He played with a band called Gary Lewis & the Playboys. Jeanne's parents divorced when she was two years old.

She finished high school at Edison High School in 1981. After that, she studied for a short time at the University of Tulsa. Jeanne also worked at a local rock radio station. Later, she went to the Juilliard School to study drama. She was part of Group 19 at Juilliard from 1986 to 1990.
