Jeffrey Lee Probst (born November 4, 1961) is an American television host, producer, and writer. He is most famous for being the host of the reality TV show Survivor since 2000. He has won several awards for his hosting on Survivor.
Probst also hosted The Jeff Probst Show, a daytime talk show, from 2012 to 2013. He has written books for young adults too.

Jeff Probst's Early Life
Jeff Probst was born in Wichita, Kansas. His parents are Jerry and Barbara Probst. When he was in high school, his family moved to Bellevue, Washington.
He finished high school in 1979 at Newport High School. After that, he went to Seattle Pacific University. He also worked at Boeing's film and TV studio. There, he produced and narrated marketing videos.
Jeff Probst's Career in Television
Before Survivor, Jeff Probst hosted other TV shows. He hosted Backchat on FX, which answered viewer letters. He also hosted Sound FX, a music show.
From 1998 to 2001, Probst hosted Rock & Roll Jeopardy! on VH1. He also worked as a reporter for Access Hollywood, a show about entertainment news.
How Jeff Probst Became the Host of Survivor
Jeff Probst is best known as the host of Survivor. This popular reality show started in 2000. He really wanted to host the show because he thought it was "something special."
The show's creator, Mark Burnett, noticed Probst in 1999. Probst was interviewing actress Sandra Bullock for Access Hollywood. Burnett was impressed because Probst could get honest answers from celebrities. He felt that Probst's fresh face would help build the show from the beginning.
Probst delivers the famous line to contestants who are voted off: "The tribe has spoken. It's time for you to go." This line was even named one of the "100 Greatest TV Quotes" in 2006.
Other TV Appearances and Projects
Probst has appeared on Jeopardy! many times. He has given Survivor-related clues from the show's filming locations. He also appeared on "Celebrity Jeopardy!" twice, in 2001 and 2003.
He was a frequent guest on the sketch comedy show MADtv. In 2009, Probst appeared on the CBS special I Get That a Lot. On this show, celebrities pretended to work regular jobs.
In 2011, he played himself on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. He also appeared as himself on Two and a Half Men in 2013 and 2014. In 2016, he was on Life in Pieces. In 2022, he even appeared on Saturday Night Live.
Jeff Probst as a Director and Author
Besides hosting, Jeff Probst has also worked behind the camera. He wrote and directed a film called Finder's Fee in 2001.
In 2012, he directed his second movie, a coming-of-age story called Kiss Me.
In 2013, Probst teamed up with Christopher Tebbetts to write a book series for middle school students. The first book is called Stranded. It's an adventure story about four kids who get shipwrecked on a deserted island. They have to work together to survive. Stranded is the first book in a three-book series.
Jeff Probst's Personal Life
Jeff Probst was married to Shelley Wright from 1996 to 2001.
He married his second wife, Lisa Ann Russell, on December 5, 2011. Jeff is a stepfather to Lisa's two children, Michael (born 2004) and Ava (born 2006). These children are from Lisa's previous marriage to actor Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Jeff has shared that he and Lisa work well with Gosselaar and his wife to co-parent the children. The children consider all four adults to be their parents.
As a fun fact, after every season of Survivor, Jeff Probst keeps the snuffer. This is the tool he uses to put out the torch of a contestant who is voted off the game. He has also performed wedding ceremonies for some of his friends as an ordained minister.
Awards and Recognition
Jeff Probst has won many awards for his work as a host. On September 21, 2008, he won the first-ever Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program.
He won this same award three more times in a row: in 2009, 2010, and 2011. People believe he won so many awards because he connects with the contestants on a personal level. He is more than just a host; he often acts like a counselor to them.
