Fillmore! is an exciting American animated TV show created by Scott M. Gimple. It first aired on ABC and later on Toon Disney. The series ran for two seasons from 2002 to 2004. It's a fun parody of 1970s police dramas, but set in a middle school! The show follows Cornelius Fillmore, a former troublemaker, and his smart partner, Ingrid Third. They are both members of the Safety Patrol at X Middle School. While made for children, the show also became popular with older viewers because of its cool 70s references.
Fillmore! was the last series made by Walt Disney Television Animation for ABC. After this, Disney focused on making shows for Disney Channel and its other channels. The show still has many dedicated fans and is seen as a cult hit. Later, reruns were shown on Disney Channel, Toon Disney, and Disney XD.

What is Fillmore! About?
The story begins with seventh grader Cornelius Fillmore (voiced by Orlando Brown). He used to be a bit of a rule-breaker. One day, he was caught taking chalk from the school's new shipment. A Safety Patrol officer gave him a choice: help solve a case or spend the rest of middle school in detention. Fillmore chose to help and ended up joining the Safety Patrol.
The show is mostly about Fillmore and his partner, Ingrid Third (voiced by Tara Strong). They work at X Middle School, which is located near Minneapolis and Saint Paul in Minnesota. The show makes fun of serious police dramas by having kids solve "crimes" at school. The Safety Patrol at X Middle School is much more involved in student behavior than a typical school's safety patrol. The officers often seem to spend more time patrolling than attending classes.
As part of the Safety Patrol, Fillmore and Ingrid solve mysteries and crimes. These are kid-friendly versions of real-world problems. For example, they investigate stolen scooters, smuggling tartar sauce, illegal frog races, and fake collector cards.
Meet the Characters
A fun fact about the characters is that they are all named after streets in San Francisco, California.
Main Characters
- Cornelius C. Fillmore (voiced by Orlando Brown) is a seventh grader and the main hero of the show. He is a dedicated member of the Safety Patrol. Fillmore used to be a "juvenile delinquent," meaning he got into trouble a lot. His past "crimes" included "chalk boosting" and "milk counterfeiting." His life changed when Safety Patrol member Wayne Liggit gave him a chance to join the patrol. Fillmore is known for going above and beyond to solve cases. He often causes some damage to school property, but he almost always catches the "criminal." He moved to X Middle School from Cleveland, Ohio.
- Ingrid Third (voiced by Tara Strong) is Fillmore's best friend and partner. She has a goth style. Before coming to X Middle School, Ingrid was sent to a special school in Nepal after an incident with a stinkbomb and a piñata. Ingrid is super smart and has a photographic memory. She became Fillmore's partner after he helped clear her name in an episode. Her father is a professor, and she has an older sister.
- Horatio Vallejo (voiced by Horatio Sanz) is the junior commissioner of the Safety Patrol. He is Fillmore's boss. Vallejo has had some tough experiences in the Safety Patrol. He often gets frustrated with Fillmore, especially when Fillmore breaks school property to solve a case. Vallejo's famous catchphrase is yelling "Fillmore!" whenever something goes wrong or gets broken.
- Karen Tehama (voiced by Lauren Tom) is the crime scene investigator for the Safety Patrol. She is very interested in forensics, which is like science used to solve crimes. She appears in most episodes, helping to find clues.
- Joseph Anza (voiced by Danny Tamberelli) is Karen Tehama's partner. He is known for his bodyguard training. Like Karen, he is often in the background but helps with investigations.
- Danny O'Farrell (voiced by Kyle Sullivan) is the Safety Patrol's crime scene photographer. He is often seen as the funny character of the show. He can be a bit over-the-top and has some strange ideas. He can even develop film using regular household items!
- Dawn S. Folsom (voiced by Wendie Malick) is the principal of X Middle School. She acts like a tough leader, similar to a mayor or a spy boss. She often threatens to turn the Safety Patrol office into something else, like a yoga studio, if they don't solve a case. She runs the school with a strong presence but cares deeply for her students and staff.
- Vice Principal Raycliff (voiced by Jeff Probst) is Principal Folsom's assistant. He acts like a secretary in crime shows. He doesn't say much but is good at sharing school facts and figures.
Other Important Characters
- Augie Sansome (voiced by Frankie Muniz in one episode) was once suspected of stealing test answers. It turned out he was actually stealing packets of tartar sauce!
- Mrs. Cornwall (voiced by Holland Taylor) is the algebra teacher. She strongly believes in the school's honor code. She even left a test answer key out in the open to prove her trust in her students.
- Cheri Shotwell (voiced by Debi Derryberry) is a cheerful cheerleader who often acts as a reporter or interviewer for the school.
- Wayne Ligget (voiced by Lukas Behnken) was Fillmore's first Safety Patrol partner. He moved away, and Ingrid took his place. Fillmore and Wayne met again later when Fillmore visited Wayne's new school in Tennessee.
How Fillmore! Was Made
The catchy theme song for the show was written and performed by the band Ookla the Mok. You can find it on their album Super Secret. The famous voice actor Don LaFontaine, known for his "In a world..." movie trailer voiceovers, was the announcer for the series.
