Holland Taylor (born January 14, 1943) is an American actress who has appeared in many movies and television shows. She is known for playing strong, smart, and often funny characters.
Taylor won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1999 for playing Judge Roberta Kittleson in the TV drama The Practice. She also received four Emmy nominations for her role as the sharp-tongued mother, Evelyn Harper, on the popular comedy series Two and a Half Men.
You might also know her from movies like Legally Blonde, where she played a tough law professor, and the family comedy George of the Jungle. Early Life and Education
Holland Taylor was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother, Virginia, was a painter, and her father, C. Tracy Taylor, was a lawyer. She went to a boarding school called Westtown School.
After high school, she decided to study Theatre at Bennington College in Vermont. She graduated in 1964 and moved to New York City to follow her dream of becoming an actress.
Acting Career
Taylor's career began on the stage in New York City. She performed in many plays on Broadway and off-Broadway throughout the 1960s, '70s, and '80s.
Breakthrough on Television
Taylor became widely known to audiences in the 1980s. She played the role of Tom Hanks's demanding boss in the comedy show Bosom Buddies. This role showed her talent for comedy.
Throughout the 1990s, she starred in several other TV shows. These included The Powers That Be and The Naked Truth.
Her most celebrated television role came in 1998 when she began playing Judge Roberta Kittleson on the legal drama The Practice. The role was only meant to be a one-time appearance, but she was so good that she stayed on the show for five years. In 1999, she won an Emmy Award for her performance.

From 2003 to 2015, Taylor played Evelyn Harper on the hit comedy Two and a Half Men. Her character was the mother of the main characters, played by Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer. For this role, she was nominated for an Emmy Award four times.

In 2009, Taylor began working on a one-woman play about Ann Richards, the former governor of Texas. Taylor not only wrote the play, called Ann, but also starred in it. A one-woman play is a show where a single actor plays all the parts.
The play was a huge success and opened on Broadway in 2013. Taylor was nominated for a Tony Award for her incredible performance.
