Club Career Highlights

Jeison Murillo started his football journey in his home country, Colombia. He later moved to Europe to play for different clubs.

Starting in Spain

Murillo was born in Cali, Colombia. When he was 18, he joined Udinese Calcio, an Italian club. Soon after, he was loaned to Granada CF in Spain. This was part of a special agreement between the two clubs. For his first year in Spain, he played for Granada's reserve team.

In 2012, Granada officially bought Murillo. However, he spent the next few seasons playing on loan for other Spanish teams. These teams included Cádiz CF and UD Las Palmas. During his first professional year in 2012–13, he scored four goals. This included two goals in one game against UD Almería. He also played in important promotion games with both teams, trying to help them move up to a higher league.

Murillo returned to Granada in mid-2013. He made his first appearance in La Liga, Spain's top football league, on August 18, 2013. His team won that game against CA Osasuna 2-1. He scored his first goal in La Liga on January 10, 2014, helping his team win 4-0 against Real Valladolid.

Playing for Inter Milan

In February 2015, Murillo signed a five-year contract with Inter Milan, a famous club in Italy. He officially joined them in July. This move cost Inter Milan about €8 million. He made his debut in Serie A, Italy's top league, on August 23, playing the whole game against Atalanta BC. Inter Milan won that match 1-0.

Time at Valencia

On August 18, 2017, Murillo went back to Spain. He joined Valencia CF on a two-year loan. After this loan, Valencia was required to buy him. He played 17 games in his first season with Valencia. His team finished fourth in the league, which meant they qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

On December 20, 2018, Murillo moved to FC Barcelona on a loan deal. This loan lasted until the end of the season. Barcelona had an option to buy him for €25 million. He played his first game for Barcelona three weeks later. It was a Copa del Rey match against Levante UD. He played for 90 minutes and received a yellow card. He also started in the second game against Levante, which Barcelona won 3-0.

Moving to Sampdoria

On July 13, 2019, Murillo signed with UC Sampdoria, another Italian club. He was still owned by Valencia at this time. Sampdoria first paid €2 million for a loan. They were then required to buy him for €13 million at the end of the season. On January 15, 2020, Sampdoria bought his rights. They then loaned him to RC Celta de Vigo in Spain until June 30. Celta also had an option to buy him.

Murillo agreed to another loan at Celta on September 16, 2020. A similar loan deal was made again on August 31 of the next year.

Later Career

On July 28, 2023, Murillo signed a two-year contract with Al-Shamal SC. This club plays in the Qatar Stars League in Qatar.

International Career

Jeison Murillo started playing for the Colombian national team on October 10, 2014. He played for 30 minutes in a friendly game against El Salvador, which Colombia won 3-0.

He was chosen to play in the 2015 Copa América tournament. He scored the only goal in a group stage game against Brazil. In the quarter-final match against Argentina, he played very well. The game ended in a 0-0 draw. However, Colombia lost in a penalty shootout, and Murillo was one of the players who missed his shot. Even so, he was named the "Best Young Player" of the tournament.
