Jennifer L. Royle (born September 3, 1974) is an American chef and former sports reporter. She is well-known for her work with the YES Network, where she reported on the MLB New York Yankees baseball team from 2003 to 2006. Jen Royle also gained fame as a chef, appearing on TV cooking shows like ABC's The Taste and Food Network's Beat Bobby Flay.
Early Life and School Days
Jen Royle was born on September 3, 1974. Her parents were Francis K. "Frank" Royle and Dianne (Borriello) Royle. She grew up in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
Jen went to Mansfield High School and finished in 1992. After high school, she attended Salve Regina University. She earned her bachelor's degree from the university in 1996.
Sports Reporting Career
Jen Royle started her career in sports reporting in 2003. She joined the YES Network as a clubhouse reporter for the New York Yankees. Her first interview was in the Yankees' locker room. She would ask players questions after games, especially those against the Red Sox.
After three years at YES, Jen worked for MLB Advanced Media. She covered the New York Yankees, including regular season and postseason games. She interviewed many Yankees players, managers, and coaches.
In May 2008, she joined XM Satellite Radio. There, she reported on both New York baseball teams: the Yankees and the New York Mets. She left XM Satellite Radio in 2009. A year later, Jen Royle moved to MASN. This network covers the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals games. She then worked for WJZ-FM in Baltimore. She reported on the Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens football team.
Before that, in 2011, Jen worked as an MLB Columnist for SB Nation. In 2013, she became a radio talk show host at WEEI-FM. A year later, she joined the Boston Herald as a news reporter. She covered Boston sports teams like the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and New England Patriots.
Culinary Career
Jen Royle appeared on season three of the ABC cooking show The Taste. After this experience, she decided to focus completely on cooking. She worked at a restaurant called Babbo in the Seaport. Later, she started her own private cooking company.
In January 2019, Jen opened her first restaurant in Boston. In 2020, she opened TABLE Mercato, an Italian market next to her restaurant. In 2021, she opened her third place, a Gelateria called TABLE Caffe. Jen Royle is known for sharing her strong opinions online, especially about her restaurants.
Personal Life
Jen Royle has two brothers. Her father passed away in 2006.
