About the Jenkins House
Built for a Station Master
The Jenkins House was first built in 1876. It was made for the person who managed the train station. This person was called the station master for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad. Imagine living right near the trains!
A House with a History
The house is known for its Late Victorian style. This was a popular way to build homes back in the late 1800s. It was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. This list helps protect important buildings across the United States.
What Happened to It?
In 1971, a fire caused some damage to the house. The fire started in a barn behind the home. This barn was home to "The Grey Barn Antiques" shop. The barn was taken down, and part of the house was also removed.
But don't worry, the house was fixed! Rebuilding and renovation work finished by 1972. A new antique shop was also built behind the house.
Why Is It Important?
The Jenkins House was part of a special study in 1984. This study looked at important historical places in Duanesburg, New York. It helped people learn more about the history of the area.
