Jenny Johanna Dalenoord (born June 17, 1918 – died October 25, 2013) was a very talented Dutch artist. She was known for drawing pictures for books, creating designs, painting with watercolors, and making cartoons. Jenny Dalenoord illustrated over 180 children's books in her career.

Some of her most famous works include the drawings for "Wiplala" by Annie M. G. Schmidt in 1957. She also illustrated "Padu is gek" by Miep Diekmann in 1957. Another well-known book she illustrated was "Gideons reizen" by Anna Rutgers van der Loeff in 1960. Jenny Dalenoord and Annie M. G. Schmidt even won the "Best Children's Book" prize in 1957 for their work on "Wiplala."

Jenny Dalenoord also drew for popular Dutch children's magazines. These included Jippo, Okki, and Kris Kras. Besides books and magazines, she designed a series of children's postage stamps in 1952.

Early Life and Career

Jenny Dalenoord was born in Cirebon, which was then called the Dutch East Indies, in 1918. This was a Dutch colony at the time. She grew up to become a well-known artist.

Her work as an illustrator meant she brought stories to life with her drawings. As a graphic designer, she created visual concepts for different projects. She was also a skilled watercolorist, using watercolors to paint beautiful pictures.

Awards and Recognition

Jenny Dalenoord received several awards for her amazing artwork. In 1957, she shared the "Best Children's Book" prize with Annie M. G. Schmidt for "Wiplala." This showed how much people appreciated her illustrations.

Later, in 1982, Dalenoord was given the Zilveren Penseel. This award, which means "Silver Brush," was for her illustrations in the book "Muis, Mol en Rat." It was a special recognition of her talent and hard work.

Later Years and Legacy

Jenny Dalenoord continued to create art for many years. She passed away in Soest, Netherlands, on October 25, 2013. She was 95 years old. Her illustrations have touched the lives of many children. Her work remains a beloved part of Dutch children's literature.
