Jenny Jones (born 3 July 1980) is a famous British professional snowboarder. She made history by becoming the first British person to win an Olympic medal in a snow sport. She won a bronze medal in slopestyle at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Jenny Jones's Early Life

Jenny Jones was born in Downend, a town near Bristol, England. She went to The Ridings High School in Winterbourne.

When she was in school, Jenny was very active. She competed in athletics, doing events like the 400-meter race, long jump, and cross country running. She also took part in gymnastics.

At age 17, Jenny learned to ski for free at a dry ski slope in Churchill, Somerset. This was her first step into snow sports.

Jenny Jones's Snowboarding Career

After finishing college, Jenny spent a winter working in Tignes, France. She worked as a chalet maid, helping guests at a ski lodge. This allowed her to spend her winters snowboarding.

She also loved to surf in the summer. She would travel to Devon and Cornwall in England to catch waves. To pay for her travels and sports, she took on various part-time jobs.

Winning X Games Medals

Jenny Jones became very successful in snowboarding competitions. She won gold medals at the X Games USA in both 2009 and 2010. The X Games are a major event for extreme sports.

She also won a gold medal at the X Games Europe in 2010. In August 2013, she earned a silver medal in slopestyle at the FIS Snowboard World Cup in New Zealand. This was a big achievement for her.

Olympic Glory in Sochi

On 9 February 2014, Jenny Jones competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She took part in the women's slopestyle event.

She performed incredibly well and finished third. This earned her a bronze medal, making her the first British person to win an Olympic medal in a snow event. Jamie Anderson won gold, and Enni Rukajärvi won silver.

After the Olympics

In 2014, Jenny received the Pery Medal from the Ski Club of Great Britain. This award recognized her amazing achievements in British snow sports.

After her Olympic success, Jenny also started working in media. In October 2014, she began hosting Jenny Jones' Extreme. This was a monthly radio show on BBC Radio 5 Live about different extreme sports.

In December 2014, she became a coach on The Jump. This was a TV show on Channel 4 where celebrities competed in winter sports.

As of 2022, Jenny Jones has retired from competitive snowboarding. She now presents on BBC Ski Sunday, a TV show about skiing and snowboarding. She also holds snowboarding workshops to teach others. Jenny also helped cover the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing for the BBC.
