Jeopardy! Battle of the Decades facts for kids
The Jeopardy! Battle of the Decades was a special tournament (a big competition) held during the 30th season of the American television game show Jeopardy! This exciting event brought back 45 past contestants who had either won or competed in the famous Tournament of Champions.
The contestants were divided into three groups based on when they played Jeopardy!:
- 1984-1993
- 1994-2003
- 2004-2013
Players from each decade competed against each other in five matches. These matches decided who would move on to the quarterfinal round of the tournament. The ultimate prize was a huge $1,000,000!
The first decade's matches aired in February 2014. The second group played in March 2014, and the third in April 2014. The final parts of the tournament, including the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the grand finals, were shown from May 5-16, 2014.
The Exciting Finals
The finals of the Battle of the Decades were very exciting! They featured three amazing players: Ken Jennings, Brad Rutter, and Roger Craig.
At that time, Ken Jennings was known as the person who had won the most money ever on a game show. However, Brad Rutter won the two-day final. He took home the amazing $1,000,000 top prize. By winning, Brad Rutter also took back the record for the most money won on a game show!
