Jeremy Thomas Hewitt (born March 4, 1984), better known by his stage name Jeremy Loops, is a singer, songwriter, and record producer from South Africa. He is famous for his unique style of creating music by recording and layering sounds live on stage using a loop pedal.

In 2011, Loops released his first collection of songs, an EP called Jeremy Loops. His first full album, Trading Change, came out in South Africa in 2014. It was later released in North America in 2015 and in Europe and Australia in 2016.

To share his music with the world, he toured the United States with the band Rebelution. He also had his own successful tours in the U.S. In late 2015, he was the opening act for the popular band Twenty One Pilots in Europe. However, this tour was cut short due to major safety concerns in Paris.

Early Life and Background

Jeremy Loops was born and grew up in Kommetjie, a small surfing town near Cape Town, South Africa. He is the oldest of three children. His mother is from Switzerland, and his father is from South Africa.

He went to the University of Cape Town and earned a degree in Finance and Property Development. Even though he studied business, he later found his true passion in music.

Music Career

How It All Started

Jeremy Loops didn't start playing music until he was in his final years of college. After graduating in 2008, he wasn't sure if he wanted to work in finance. So, he spent two years traveling the world and working on a large private boat called a superyacht.

While at sea, he didn't have a band to play with. He started using a loop pedal, a device that lets a musician record a piece of music and play it back in a repeating loop. This allowed him to create the sound of a full band all by himself. When he returned home in 2010, he decided to become a professional musician. He also helped start Greenpop, an organization that plants trees.

2011–2013: First Songs and Live Shows

In 2011, Loops released his first EP. An EP, or extended play, is a short collection of songs, longer than a single but shorter than a full album. Many of the songs from this EP were later re-recorded for his first album, Trading Change.

During these years, he became very popular in South Africa because of his exciting live performances. His energetic shows earned him the Best Live Act award at the 2014 MK Awards.

In January 2014, Loops released the song "Down South," which quickly became a huge hit in South Africa. It reached the number one spot on major radio stations like 5fm and 94.7. The song's success made many people excited for his upcoming album.

When Trading Change was released in South Africa in April 2014, it immediately went to number one on iTunes. To support the album, Loops toured all over his home country. He then began to tour internationally, performing across the United States and Europe.

In 2018, Loops released his second album, Critical as Water. This album was inspired by a serious water shortage that his home city of Cape Town was experiencing at the time.

2019–Present: More New Music

In 2022, Loops released his third album, Heard You Got Love. One of the popular songs from this album is "Better Together."

A single called "Go Again" was released in 2024. The song has a positive message about being strong and hopeful, even when facing difficult times. It was inspired by what the artist and the world went through during the COVID-19 pandemic.
