Jermaine Russell Van Buren (born July 2, 1980) is a former professional baseball player. He was a pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the Chicago Cubs in 2005 and the Boston Red Sox in 2006.

Early Baseball Journey
Jermaine went to Hattiesburg High School in Mississippi. In 1998, during his senior year, he was named the best player in Mississippi. He was also chosen for a special national team, the ABCA/Rawlings High School All-America Third Team.
The Colorado Rockies picked him in the second round of the 1998 Major League Baseball draft. This meant he could start his professional baseball journey.
Playing in the Pros
Jermaine played in the minor leagues for the Rockies for four years. In 2003, he left the Rockies and joined an independent team called the Fort Worth Cats.
He got another chance at the major leagues when the Chicago Cubs signed him in 2004. He quickly moved up through their minor league system. Soon, he was playing for the Cubs' Triple-A team in Iowa.
Making it to MLB
In 2005, Jermaine had a great year in the minor leagues. He finished second in his league with 25 saves. His ERA was very low at 1.98. He also had 65 strikeouts in 54 and two-thirds innings pitched.
Because of his strong performance, the Cubs called him up to the major leagues. He played in six games for the Cubs. After the season, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox.
In 2006, Jermaine joined the Red Sox. He made his debut with them on April 21 against the Toronto Blue Jays. He moved between the Red Sox and their Triple-A team, the Pawtucket Red Sox, throughout the season.
After Major League Baseball
After his time in MLB, Jermaine continued his baseball career. In 2006, he signed a minor league deal with the Washington Nationals. He also played winter baseball in Puerto Rico for the Criollos de Caguas.
In 2007, the Oakland Athletics acquired him from the Nationals. Then, in 2008, he moved to Taiwan to play for the CPBL team, the La New Bears.
Life Outside Baseball
In 2006, while playing for the Red Sox, Jermaine married Tiffany Suther. During the off-season, he enjoys teaching baseball to others. He helps at the Amarillo Baseball Academy.
