Jerome Purcell Chambers (born July 18, 1943) is an American former professional basketball player. He was known for his skills as a small forward. He played in both the NBA and the ABA.

Early Life and High School
Jerry Chambers was born on July 18, 1943. He grew up in Washington, D.C.. He first went to Spingarn High School. Later, he transferred to Eastern High School. This happened after he was cut from the basketball team at Spingarn.
College Basketball Career
Jerry Chambers played college basketball at the University of Utah. He played there from 1963 to 1966. He became a star player for the Runnin' Utes.
Most Outstanding Player Award
In 1966, Jerry Chambers won a special award. He was named the NCAA basketball tournament Most Outstanding Player. This was a big achievement. He won it even though his team finished fourth in the NCAA Final Four.
Chambers is the only player ever to win this award for a fourth-place team. The game for third place was stopped in 1981. He scored 143 points in four tournament games. This is still an NCAA Tournament record. He scored 70 of those points in the Final Four alone. He had 38 points against Texas-Western. He also scored 32 points against the Duke Blue Devils.
College Statistics
During his time at Utah, Chambers was a very strong player. He averaged 24.6 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. In his senior year (1965–1966), he averaged 28.8 points and 11.6 rebounds. His 892 points in that season are the second-highest ever at Utah.

After college, Jerry Chambers played professional basketball. He played in the NBA and the ABA.
NBA Teams
Chambers played four seasons in the NBA. He was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers (1966–1967). He then played for the Phoenix Suns (1969–1970). After that, he joined the Atlanta Hawks (1970–1971). His last NBA team was the Buffalo Braves (1971–1972).
ABA Teams
After his time in the NBA, Chambers played two seasons in the ABA. He played for the San Diego Conquistadors (1972–1973). He then finished his career with the San Antonio Spurs (1973–1974). His best season was with San Diego. He averaged 11.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
Military Service and Trades
Jerry Chambers missed two seasons (1967–1968 and 1968–1969) because he was serving in the military. In 1968, he was part of a very important trade. The Lakers traded him, along with Archie Clark and Darrall Imhoff, to the Philadelphia 76ers. In return, the Lakers received the famous player Wilt Chamberlain. Chambers never played for the 76ers. They traded him to Phoenix shortly after.
