Jerry Pinto (born in 1966) is an Indian writer, poet, and journalist from Mumbai. He writes in English and is known for his novels, poems, short stories, and translations. His book Helen: The Life and Times of an H-Bomb won an award for best book about cinema. His first novel, Em and the Big Hoom, published in 2012, won many important literary prizes.

Early Life and Education

Jerry Pinto grew up in Mahim, Mumbai. His family has roots in Goa. He went to Elphinstone College at the University of Mumbai. He also studied law at Government Law College in Mumbai.

Writing Career

Jerry Pinto has written many different kinds of books. In 2006, he wrote a book about the famous actress Helen Jairag Richardson. This book, called The Life and Times of an H-Bomb, won the National Film Award for Best Book on Cinema in 2007.

He also writes poetry. His collection of poems, Asylum and Other Poems, came out in 2003. He helped edit another book of poems called Confronting Love.

Jerry Pinto has worked as a journalist for various magazines and newspapers. He wrote articles for the Hindustan Times and Live Mint.

In 2009, he worked with Leela Naidu to write Leela: A Portrait. This book shares stories and photos from Leela Naidu's life. She was known as one of the most beautiful women in the world in the 1950s and 1960s.

His first novel, Em and the Big Hoom, was published in 2012. It quickly became very popular. This book won The Hindu Literary Prize in the same year. It was also considered for the Commonwealth Book Prize.

Jerry Pinto is also a talented translator. He has translated several books from the Marathi language into English. Some of these include Cobalt Blue, Baluta, When I Hid My Caste, and I, the Salt Doll.
