Jesús Puras Vidal de la Peña, often called 'Chus Puras', is a famous Spanish rally driver. He was born on March 16, 1963. He competed in the exciting World Rally Championship (WRC) from 1991 to 2002. Puras was especially known for being super fast on rallies held on paved roads, which are called tarmac rallies.

Rally Career Highlights

Jesús Puras started his rally driving journey in 1982. He quickly became a champion in his home country. He won the Spanish Rally Championship title an amazing eight times! He achieved these wins with different powerful cars. These included the Lancia Delta Integrale, Citroën ZX 16S, and Citroën Xsara Kit Car.

In 1994, Puras also won the FIA Group N Cup. This competition is now known as the World Rally Championship-3. He drove a Ford Escort RS Cosworth to victory in that series.

Joining the Citroën Team

Puras joined the Citroën Total World Rally Team in 1999. He was chosen to drive their new Citroën Xsara Kit Car. This was a big step in his career.

His biggest success in the WRC came in 2001. He won his only WRC race at the Tour de Corse rally in France. His co-driver for this victory was Marc Martí. They drove the powerful Citroën Xsara WRC car.

Retirement from WRC

After the 2001 season, a new talented driver named Sébastien Loeb started to become very famous. Loeb's performances began to overshadow Puras's. Because of this, Jesús Puras decided to retire from the Citroën factory team and the WRC.

His last WRC rally was the 2002 Rallye Sanremo. He finished in a strong sixth place in that race. This marked the end of his exciting career in the World Rally Championship.
