Jesse Powell (born September 12, 1971 – died September 13, 2022) was an American singer and songwriter. He was known for his amazing voice, which could reach four different octaves! Jesse sang R&B and soul music.
He became famous for his hit song "You". This song reached number 2 on the R&B music charts and number 10 on the main Billboard chart. Jesse released four albums during his career. He was also the older brother of two other R&B singers, Trina & Tamara. Jesse Powell was even nominated for a Grammy Award, which is a very important music award.

Early Life and First Steps
Jesse Powell was born in Gary, Indiana. He grew up there with his brother Jacob and his sisters, Trina and Tamara. Music was a big part of their family life. They often performed together in local talent shows.
In 1993, Jesse's talent caught the eye of a music producer named Carl Roland. This happened in Kansas City. After Jesse performed at a special event for artists, a music executive named Louil Silas Jr. signed him to his record label, Silas Records.
Releasing His First Albums
Jesse worked hard on his first album for three years. His very first song, "All I Need", came out in March 1996. It was written by Jesse himself, along with Sam Salter and Laney Stewart. This song reached number 32 on the Billboard R&B chart.
His first album, called Jesse Powell, was released on March 12, 1996. It did well on the music charts. Another song from the album was "Gloria", which was a new version of an older song.
His Biggest Hit: "You"
After his first album, Jesse started working on his second one. The first song from this album was "I Wasn't with It", released in 1998. This song was his first to appear on the main Billboard Hot 100 chart.
His second album, 'Bout It, came out on September 8, 1998. It quickly became very popular. The most famous song from this album was "You". It was released in February 1999 and became Jesse's biggest success. "You" reached number 2 on the R&B charts and number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was so popular that it was certified gold, meaning it sold over 500,000 copies!
Later Music and Career
Later, Silas Records joined with another big music company called MCA Records. Jesse then released a new song called "If I" in 2000. His third album, JP, came out on March 27, 2001. It also did well on the R&B and Billboard 200 charts.
In 2002, Jesse moved to a new record label, Riviera Records. His fourth and final album, Jesse, was released on October 14, 2003. It included songs like "By the Way" and "Touching It Tonight."
Jesse Powell's Passing
Jesse Powell passed away in his home in Los Angeles on September 13, 2022. He died from a heart attack, just one day after his 51st birthday.
