Jessica Danielle Andrews Chagnon (born December 29, 1983) is an American country music singer. She started her music career at a young age.

In 1999, when she was 15, Jessica released her first song, "I Will Be There for You." This song was from her first album, Heart Shaped World.

Her most famous song is "Who I Am" from 2001. It became a number one country hit and helped her second album, also called Who I Am, sell a lot of copies.

Jessica has released other albums, but her record label, DreamWorks, closed down. She later signed with another label, Carolwood Records, but no new albums were released there either. Jessica Andrews is married to Marcel, who is also a singer and songwriter.

Early Life and Discovering Music

Jessica Danielle Andrews was born in Huntingdon, Tennessee. When she was seven years old, she had a serious surgery on her spinal cord. Doctors said there was a 50/50 chance she might not be able to move her legs afterwards. Luckily, the surgery went well.

Jessica found her love for singing when she was in fourth grade. She was planning to dance in her school's talent show. But her sister convinced her to sing Dolly Parton's famous song, "I Will Always Love You" instead.

By the time she was 11, Jessica had already put together her first music band! Someone sent a recording of her singing to a music producer named Byron Gallimore. Soon after, Jessica signed a deal with DreamWorks Records Nashville. She started working on her first album. Before her album came out, she even opened concerts for famous singers like Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.

Music Career

Heart Shaped World

Jessica Andrews released her first album, Heart Shaped World, when she was just 15. Her producer, Byron Gallimore, was careful because of her age. He let her record 50 songs before they picked the best 12 for the album.

The first song from the album was "I Will Be There for You." Jessica had recorded this song in 1998 for the soundtrack of the movie The Prince of Egypt. This song reached number 28 on the country music charts in 1999.

In March 1999, she sang the song on a TV show called Another World. A month later, she performed at the Grand Ole Opry, which is a very famous country music stage. In 2000, she also toured with singer Trisha Yearwood.

Two other songs from Heart Shaped World, "You Go First (Do You Wanna Kiss)" and "Unbreakable Heart," also became popular. The album itself reached number 24 on the country album charts. Jessica also won an award for Top New Female Vocalist at the 2000 Academy of Country Music awards.

Who I Am

Jessica's second album was called Who I Am, and it came out in 2001. The song "Who I Am" was even used as the theme song for a TV show called Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye. It also appeared in an episode of Lizzie McGuire.

Jessica was 17 when she recorded Who I Am. She said this album felt more grown-up than her first one. It talked about the feelings that come with growing up.

The song "Who I Am" became Jessica's only number one hit on the country music charts. It also did well on other charts. In an interview, Jessica explained that she loved the song because it felt like it was about her own life. She said, "Everything is so true in that song... It's about believing in yourself and being supported by those around you."

In 2001, Jessica toured with Billy Gilman and later with Tim McGraw to promote her album. Who I Am sold over 500,000 copies and earned a gold certification.

Now and Ain't That Life

Jessica's third album, Now, was released in 2003. The first song from this album, "There's More to Me Than You", reached the Top 20 on the country charts.

Around this time, Jessica became friends with and started dating a songwriter named Marcel. He helped write "There's More to Me Than You." They even sang a duet together called "I Won't Hold You Down" on Marcel's album.

In 2004, Jessica sang a duet with Bret Michaels, the lead singer of the rock band Poison. The song was called "All I Ever Needed."

Jessica then started working on her fourth album, which was going to be called Ain't That Life. However, her record label, DreamWorks, closed down. Because of this, the album was never released.

Later Career (2008–Present)

In 2008, Jessica sang a duet with pop artist Richard Marx called "Wild Horses."

Later that year, she signed with a new record label, Carolwood Records. Her first song for them was "Everything," which she co-wrote with Marcel. This song reached number 45 on the charts in 2009. However, Carolwood Records also closed down, and her album with them was never released. Jessica was the only artist from Carolwood who wasn't moved to another label.

In 2010, a collection of Jessica's greatest hits, called Icon, was released.

Personal Life

In October 2010, Jessica Andrews got engaged to Marcel, who is a singer-songwriter and music video director. They got married on November 11, 2011.

Jessica and Marcel have two children. They welcomed a baby boy in 2018 and a daughter in 2022.
