Jessica Faye Gunning (born 1 January 1986) is a talented English actress. She has appeared in many popular TV shows. These include White Heat (2012), What Remains (2013), and Back (2017–2021). She is also well-known for her role in The Outlaws (2021–2024). Jessica gained huge recognition for her role in the miniseries Baby Reindeer (2024). For this role, she won a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She was also nominated for a Critics' Choice Television Award.

Jessica Gunning's Early Life
Jessica Gunning was born on January 1, 1986. Her hometown is Holmfirth, which is in West Yorkshire, England. Her parents are Paul and Val Gunning. Her father worked for the local council. Her mother was a drama teacher at Holmfirth High School, where Jessica also went to school. Jessica has two siblings, a sister named Harriet and a brother named Josh.
She went to Holmfirth High School near Huddersfield. After that, she studied at Greenhead College in Huddersfield. She then went on to Rose Bruford College, a famous drama school. She finished her studies there in 2007.
Her Acting Journey
Jessica Gunning started her acting career on stage. She performed at the Royal National Theatre in London. Some of her early plays there included Much Ado About Nothing and Major Barbara in 2007 and 2008.
Her first TV appearance was in 2008. She guest-starred in the popular science fiction show Doctor Who. The episode was called "Partners in Crime". She also appeared in Mutual Friends. Later, she got a regular role as Angela in Law & Order: UK starting in 2009.
In 2012, Jessica played Orla in the BBC series White Heat. After that, she had a main role as Melissa Young in the BBC drama What Remains. In 2013, she was also in an episode of Great Night Out for ITV. The next year, she played Siân James in the film Pride. This movie was nominated for a Golden Globe and a BAFTA.
Jessica continued to work on many TV shows. She was in The Scandalous Lady W on BBC Two. She also played Shirley Allerdyce in Sky Atlantic's series Fortitude. Her other roles include WPC Kath Morgan in Prime Suspect 1973. She was also DC Sophie Carson in In the Dark. In 2017, she played Umm Walid in the Channel 4 drama The State.
In 2019, Jessica returned to the stage. She performed alongside famous actress Cate Blanchett at the Royal National Theatre. The play was called When We Have Sufficiently Tortured Each Other.
Jessica played Jan in the Channel 4 comedy Back. In 2021, she starred as Diane Pemberley in BBC One's The Outlaws. This show was created by Stephen Merchant. Jessica continued her role in The Outlaws for its second and third series in 2022 and 2024. She even helped write one episode of the third series.
In 2024, Jessica Gunning took on the role of Martha Scott. This was in the Netflix drama-thriller Baby Reindeer. Her performance earned her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. She also won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film.
