The 82nd Golden Globe Awards was a special event that celebrated the best movies and TV shows from 2024. The winners were announced live on TV on January 5, 2025. The show was hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser. She was the first woman to host the Golden Globes all by herself!
The list of nominees was shared on December 9, 2024. This happened at a press conference in The Beverly Hilton hotel. Actors Morris Chestnut and Mindy Kaling announced the names. The movie Emilia Pérez received the most nominations for a comedy or musical film ever, with 10 nominations. The Brutalist was nominated 7 times, and Conclave got 6 nominations. For TV shows, The Bear led with 5 nominations. Only Murders in the Building and Shōgun each got 4 nominations.

About the Ceremony
On August 28, 2024, it was announced that Nikki Glaser would host the awards. She made history as the first solo female host. Glaser herself was nominated for an award for her comedy special, Nikki Glaser: Someday You'll Die. However, she did not win.
The awards show took place on January 5, 2025. It was shown live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner helped produce the show.
Two special Lifetime Achievement Awards were given out this year. These awards honor people who have had a huge impact on movies and TV over many years. The Cecil B. DeMille Award went to Viola Davis. The Carol Burnett Award was given to Ted Danson. These awards were presented at a special dinner before the main TV show.

Karla Sofía Gascón, a star from Emilia Pérez, was the first openly transgender person to be nominated for a Golden Globe acting award in a movie category. She was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
Netflix received the most nominations overall, with 36 for both movies and TV shows.
Emilia Pérez made history as the first non-English language film to win Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Flow was the first Latvian film to win Best Animated Feature Film. Fernanda Torres became the first Brazilian actress to win a Golden Globe for acting. She won Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.
Emilia Pérez and Shōgun were the biggest winners of the night. Each won four awards for film and television, respectively. The Brutalist won three film awards. For TV, Baby Reindeer and Hacks each won two awards.
