Jesús Colina is a Spanish journalist who has spent much of his career working in Rome, Italy. He was born in Miranda de Ebro, Spain, in 1969. He is well-known for leading important Catholic news organizations, including the Zenit News Agency and, currently, Aleteia.

Early Career in Journalism

Colina started his journalism career in 1991. He worked as an editor for several international magazines, including Proyección Mundial from Mexico, the American Catholic World Report, and the French Le Temps de l'Eglise.

Starting in 1994, he became a correspondent in Rome for Alfa y Omega, which is a weekly part of the Spanish newspaper ABC. He also wrote articles for other well-known newspapers like Avvenire and the National Catholic Register.

Founding ZENIT News Agency

In 1997, Jesús Colina founded ZENIT. This was a special news agency focused on sharing Catholic news and information globally. In 1998, he also worked with the Digital Network of the Church in Latin America, called RIIAL.

His work was recognized by the Church. In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Colina as a consultant to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. This council helps the Church use modern communication tools. In 2011, he left ZENIT.

Leading Aleteia

After leaving ZENIT in 2011, Jesús Colina started a new project. He founded Aleteia, which is an online website that provides Catholic news and information. This project received support from the Foundation for Evangelization through the Media. Today, he is the president and editorial director of Aleteia.

Awards and Recognition

Jesús Colina has received awards for his important work in journalism. In 2006, he was given the Servitor Pacis Award at the United Nations headquarters in New York. This award recognized his professional contributions to peace. In 2018, he also received the "Bravo!" award from the Spanish bishops, which celebrates excellence in communication.
