Jijabai, also known as Jijamata or Jijau, was a very important woman in Indian history. She was the mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji, who founded the Maratha Empire. People often called her Rajmata, which means 'Royal Mother'. She was born on January 12, 1598, and passed away on June 17, 1674.
Early Life of Jijabai
Jijabai was born in a place called Sindkhed Raja in Maharashtra, India. Her parents were Mhalasabai and Lakhuji Jadhav. When she was young, she married Shahaji Bhosle. Shahaji was a brave military leader. He worked for a ruler called the Nizam.
Jijabai's Legacy
Jijabai played a huge role in shaping her son, Shivaji. She taught him about courage and justice. She inspired him to fight for his people and establish the Maratha Empire. Her teachings helped Shivaji become a great leader.
The End of Her Journey
Jijabai passed away on June 17, 1674. She died in a village called Pachad, near Raigad Fort. This was just eleven days after her son, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, had his grand coronation ceremony.
