James Brewer (born October 3, 1920 – died June 3, 1988) was an American blues singer and guitarist. He was sometimes called Blind Jim Brewer. However, he didn't like this name. He would say, "My mother didn't name me 'Blind,' she named me 'Jim.'"

James Brewer was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi. In the 1940s, he moved to Chicago, Illinois. There, he became a street performer, also known as a busker. He played both blues and religious songs.

He performed at many places. These included Maxwell Street in Chicago. He also played at blues and folk festivals. In Chicago, he often played music with Arvella Gray.

Music Career and Recordings

During the 1960s, there was a big interest in blues music. This time was called the "blues revival." James Brewer became very busy during this period.

He performed at many colleges. He also appeared on television shows. During this time, he released several recordings. His music was put out by record labels like Heritage, Flyright, and Testament Records.
