James Patrick Clench (born May 1, 1949 – died November 3, 2010) was a Canadian musician. He was famous for playing the bass guitar and singing in popular rock bands like April Wine and Bachman–Turner Overdrive.

Jim Clench's Time with April Wine
Joining April Wine
Jim Clench joined the band April Wine in October 1971. He became their new bass player after their first bassist left.
Singing and Songwriting
While Myles Goodwyn was the main singer for April Wine, Jim Clench also sang lead on some songs. He was the lead vocalist for hit songs like "Oowatanite," which he also wrote himself. Another song he sang lead on was "Weeping Widow."
Albums and Departure
Jim Clench helped create several albums with April Wine. These include On Record (1972), Electric Jewels (1973), and a live album called Live! (1974). He also played on Stand Back (1975), which came out just as he decided to leave the band. After leaving, Steve Lang took his place.
Jim Clench's Time with Bachman–Turner Overdrive
Joining BTO
In 1978, Jim Clench was asked to join another famous rock band, Bachman–Turner Overdrive (BTO). He joined to replace Randy Bachman, who wanted to start his own music career.
Contributions to BTO
Jim Clench played bass for BTO until the band first broke up in 1979. He appeared on two of their albums: Street Action (1978) and Rock n' Roll Nights (1979). Besides playing bass, Jim also shared lead singing duties with Fred Turner. He wrote several songs for these albums too.
Other Projects
After his time with BTO, Jim Clench also played as a guest musician on Bryan Adams's first album in 1980. He also formed his own band called 451 Degrees in 1980. They released one album in Canada. Jim also briefly played with the band Loverboy.
Jim Clench's Return to April Wine
Rejoining the Band
In 1992, April Wine got back together, and Jim Clench was invited to rejoin. He accepted and became their bass player once again.
Later Albums
Jim Clench played on four more studio albums with April Wine after rejoining. These albums include Attitude (1993), Frigate (1994), Back to the Mansion (2001), and Roughly Speaking (2006). He also appeared on their live album, Greatest Hits Live 2003.
Final Departure
In late 2006, Jim Clench left April Wine for the second time. Breen LeBoeuf took over as the band's bassist in early 2007.
Jim Clench's Passing
Jim Clench passed away on November 3, 2010. He died in a hospital in Montreal after an illness.
