Myles Francis Goodwyn (born June 23, 1948 – died December 3, 2023) was a famous Canadian musician. He was best known as the lead singer, guitarist, and main songwriter for the rock band April Wine. He released 16 studio albums with April Wine and two albums on his own. Myles led the band from its start, helping them become super popular and sell millions of albums. He won many awards, including the National Achievement Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also honored in the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. As part of April Wine, he was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
Myles Goodwyn was born on June 23, 1948, in Woodstock, New Brunswick. He grew up in Waverley, Nova Scotia. He once shared memories of hitchhiking to church on Sundays.
In 1969, Goodwyn helped create the band April Wine. He formed the group with David Henman (guitar), Ritchie Henman (drums), and Jim Henman (bass). Myles led the band from its early days as a garage band. He helped them reach huge success, selling many millions of albums.
Music Career and Achievements
After April Wine became very successful in the 1970s and early 1980s, Myles also started a solo music career.
In 2002, Goodwyn won the National Achievement Award at the annual SOCAN Awards in Toronto. The next year, in January 2003, he received an ECMA Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honored his big impact on the music scene in Atlantic Canada.
In March 2008, Myles shared that he was working on his second solo album. It was called Myles Goodwyn & Friends of the Blues. This album was all about blues music. It featured special guest musicians like Amos Garrett and Rick Derringer. Myles said making this record helped him find his love for blues music again. He was inspired by the music of Taj Mahal.
In 2010, Myles Goodwyn and April Wine were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In 2016, his autobiography (a book about his own life) was released. It was titled Just Between You and Me. In 2018, his second book, "Elvis And Tiger," was published.
His second album, Myles Goodwyn and Friends of the Blues, came out in 2018. It won an ECMA award for "Blues Recording of the Year" in 2019. He then released Myles Goodwyn and Friends Of The Blues 2 in 2019. This album also won the same ECMA award in 2020. In 2022, Myles received an award from the Singapore International Festival of Arts. This was for his song "For Ukraine," which won in the "best social impact music/art" category.
On December 20, 2022, Myles Goodwyn stopped touring with April Wine. This was because of his diabetes and other health issues. By 2022, Myles was the only original member of April Wine still active with the band. He continued to write new songs for the group. He gave his very last live performance with April Wine on March 2, 2023. This show took place in Truro, Nova Scotia.
In 2023, Goodwyn was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. Also in 2023, April Wine was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame. During his career, April Wine sold over 10 million albums. They were also nominated 11 times for Juno Awards. Myles felt that being inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame was his greatest achievement.
Personal Life
Myles Goodwyn grew up in Nova Scotia. He later lived in Quebec for many years. In his later life, he lived in the Halifax area. Besides music, Myles enjoyed playing golf.
In 2008, he decided to write his autobiography. He stopped touring in March 2023 due to health concerns. He no longer wanted to travel often. Myles Goodwyn passed away at age 75 on December 3, 2023, in Halifax.
