James Valentine Smith (born February 13, 1887 – died November 10, 1951) was a famous Irish Gaelic football player. He played for the senior teams of Meath and Louth. His championship career lasted for eleven years, from 1909 to 1919.

Jim Smith started playing club football with the Bettystown club. This club is in Meath. In 1908, he won a junior county championship medal with them.

Later, he moved to the Tredaghs club in Drogheda. With Tredaghs, he won two senior county championship medals. These wins were in 1910 and 1912.

Playing for His County

Jim Smith first played for his county in 1909. He was part of both the junior and senior teams for Meath. After just one season, he moved to play for Louth.

He became the captain of the Louth team. He led them to win two All-Ireland titles. These big wins happened in 1910 and 1912. Jim also won two Leinster medals with Louth. He stopped playing inter-county football after the 1919 championship.

Later Life and Death

Jim Smith passed away on November 10, 1951. He was 64 years old. His death was due to a car accident.
