Jim Thornton is a well-known American voice actor and announcer. He is famous for lending his voice to many video games, movies, and TV shows. Since 2011, he has been the main announcer for the popular game show Wheel of Fortune.

Early Life and School
Jim Thornton was born in Huntington, West Virginia, in the United States. He finished Huntington High School in 1983. The next year, in 1984, he moved to Los Angeles to start his career in broadcasting. He also studied linguistics at Marshall University.

Working in Radio
Thornton is well-known for his work on the all-news radio station KNX 1070 in Los Angeles. He became the afternoon news anchor there, after starting as a traffic reporter. He also announced for the TV show Celebrity Deathmatch and narrated a part of the movie Monsters, Inc..

He sometimes filled in as an announcer for The Price Is Right. This was after the show's longtime announcer, Rod Roddy, passed away.
Wheel of Fortune
In December 2010, Thornton tried out for the announcer role on Wheel of Fortune. This opening happened after the show's announcer, Charlie O'Donnell, died. On June 13, 2011, it was announced that Jim Thornton would be the new announcer for Wheel of Fortune. Because of this new job, he reduced his hours at KNX radio.
In 2021, Thornton also became the announcer for Celebrity Wheel of Fortune on ABC. This show features famous people playing for charity.
Switching Roles with Pat Sajak
On April 26, 2023, something fun happened on Wheel of Fortune. Jim Thornton switched places with the show's host, Pat Sajak. Thornton hosted the bonus round, while Sajak became the announcer. This happened because a contestant named Sarah Ward was a big fan of Jim Thornton and wanted to meet him in person.

Jim Thornton has used his voice for many different characters and shows. He was the voice of Johnny Gomez in Celebrity Deathmatch. He also voiced the announcer in The Cleveland Show. In video games, he provided extra voices for Hitman: Blood Money and was a DJ in Mafia II. He also announced for the Wheel of Fortune video games.
