Music Journey
Early Days (2012–2014)
Jimmy Prime and his group, Prime Boys, first got attention in Toronto around 2014. They released many freestyles and mixtapes. Jimmy Prime became well-known for calling Toronto "The Six." This nickname later became popular around the world, even used by famous rappers like Drake.
Before becoming Jimmy Prime, he was known as "Jimmy Johnson." His song "Pray" helped him gain notice. This led to his first mixtape, In God We Trust, released in early 2014. Another mixtape, Red Ferrari, followed. Both were produced by Eric Dingus. During this time, Jimmy Prime also became good friends with producer Murda Beatz. Murda Beatz later produced many songs for him.
Growing Success (2015–2017)
In 2015, Jimmy Prime helped produce the song "Now & Forever" for Drake's album If You're Reading This It's Too Late. This helped him reach a wider audience around the world.
He released his third mixtape, Block Boy, in July 2015. It included a song called "Best One" with Whiss. Jimmy Prime explained that the name Block Boy means that no matter how successful he becomes, he will always remember where he came from.
In 2016, XXL magazine listed Prime as one of the top Canadian artists to know. He also appeared on Murda Beatz's mixtape Keep God First with the song "Drop Out." This prepared him for his first EP, Bleeding Bull, which came out on March 28, 2017. The EP had six songs and featured production from artists like STWO and Wonda Gurl.
New Projects (2018–2022)
In January 2018, Jimmy Prime and the Prime Boys announced they were working on their first group album. They released the song "Tinted" with a music video showing them riding ATVs. This song helped promote Canada's growing hip-hop music scene.
The Prime Boys' album was later named Koba World. This was a tribute to their friend and assistant manager, Koba Prime, who passed away in June 2018. Jimmy Prime shared that Koba was like family and always helped them. The album was released on July 27, 2018. Other songs from the album included "Hold Me Down" and "Sopranos."
In December 2019, Jimmy Prime appeared on 6ixBuzz's album Northern Sound. He released his song "Keep to Myself" in February 2020. His EP, Incase we don't make it to tomorrow, was released in June 2022. He also announced that his first album, Blue Mercedes, would be released soon.
