Prime Boys is a Canadian hip hop collective from Toronto, Ontario. The group includes three members: Jay Whiss, Jimmy Prime, and Donnie. They released their first studio album, Koba World, on July 27, 2018.
About Prime Boys
The three members of Prime Boys grew up together in the Esplanade area of Toronto. This part of the city is a popular spot for tourists. However, the group shares stories about their city that visitors might not usually see.
One of the group members, Jimmy Prime, is known for creating the nickname "The Six" for Toronto. This name comes from the city's six main areas and its phone area codes, 416 and 647. Famous artist Drake helped make this nickname known around the world.
The group's song "Tinted" was produced by Murda Beatz. It was even featured on Spotify's "Northern Bars" playlist, which highlights Canadian hip hop.
Music and Albums
Prime Boys released their first studio album on July 27, 2018. The album was originally going to be called Prime Forever. However, they changed the name to Koba World to honor their good friend, Koba Prime, who passed away.
The album received a very good review from Exclaim! magazine, earning a 9 out of 10 score. Murda Beatz produced many of the songs on the album. Popular songs from Koba World include "Hold Me Down," "Sopranos," "Tinted," and "Come Wit It."
Jay Whiss and Jimmy Prime also appeared on NorthernSound. This was the second album released by 6ixBuzz, a Canadian entertainment company. They were featured on the song "The World is Yours" with Safe.
The Prime Boys also team up with members of the group Halal Gang to form a supergroup called "Full Circle." A supergroup is when members from different bands come together to make music.
Jay Whiss released his own first studio album, Peace of Mind, on March 3, 2020. This album featured other artists like Puffy L'z, and his fellow Prime Boys members Donnie and Jimmy Prime.
