Jingnan (pronounced Jing-nan), also known as Nanping, was a small kingdom in ancient China. It was one of the many states during a time called the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. This period lasted from 907 to 960 AD. Jingnan itself existed from 924 to 963 AD. It was located in the central-south part of China.

Jingnan was known for being a very small but clever state. It often played different larger kingdoms against each other. This helped it survive for a long time. Its capital city was Jingzhou.

Who Ruled Jingnan?

Jingnan was ruled by a family named Gao. They were called "Princes" or "Kings" of Jingnan. Here are the main rulers of Jingnan:

  • Gao Jixing (909–928): He was the first ruler. He started the kingdom.
  • Gao Conghui (928–948): He ruled for a long time.
  • Gao Baorong (948–960): He was the ruler when the Five Dynasties period ended.
  • Gao Baoxu (960–962): He ruled for a short time.
  • Gao Jichong (962–963): He was the last ruler of Jingnan.
