In 2016, he was a very strong player. He hit 11 home runs and helped his team score 44 runs. He also pitched well, getting 56 strikeouts.
Becoming a Professional Player
Drafted by the Angels
Many people thought Jo Adell was one of the best young players for the 2017 MLB draft. The Los Angeles Angels picked him as the tenth player overall in the draft. This meant he would start his professional baseball journey with them.
Playing in the Minor Leagues
Adell began his professional career in June 2017 with a team called the AZL Angels. He played very well, hitting four home runs and stealing 10 bases. Because he played so well, he was quickly moved up to another team, the Orem Owlz. He finished his first season with the Owlz.
In 2018, Adell started with the Burlington Bees. He continued to hit well, with six home runs. He was then promoted to the Inland Empire 66ers. His strong play earned him a spot in the 2018 All-Star Futures Game, which features top young players. After playing for the 66ers, he moved up again to the Mobile BayBears. In total, he hit 20 home runs and stole 15 bases across these three teams in 2018.
Adell was invited to train with the Angels' main team in 2019. He started the year playing for Mobile again. He hit six home runs in 32 games and was chosen for the 2019 All-Star Futures Game once more. On August 1, he was promoted to the Salt Lake Bees, a Triple-A team. In 2019, he hit 10 home runs and helped score 36 runs across his minor league teams. After the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League. He also played for the United States national baseball team in the 2019 WBSC Premier 12 tournament. In that tournament, he hit three home runs and had 11 hits, which was tied for the most in the tournament.
