Joanne Mary Joyner (born on May 24, 1977) is a talented English actress. She is famous for playing Tanya Branning in the BBC show EastEnders. Jo also played Mandy Carter in the school drama Ackley Bridge on Channel 4. Since 2018, she has been starring as Luella Shakespeare in the BBC crime drama Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators.

Early Life and Education
Jo Joyner was born in Harlow, Essex, England. Her parents are Anne and Peter Joyner. She has an older brother named David. In 1999, Jo graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. This college is in Cardiff, Wales. She earned a degree in Acting there.
Acting Career Highlights
Jo Joyner started her career with small roles in many TV shows. These included Always and Everyone and Heartbeat.
Becoming a Star in No Angels
From 2004 to 2006, Jo became well-known for playing Beth Nicholls. This was in the Channel 4 comedy-drama No Angels. She also appeared in North & South and Doctor Who.
Joining the Cast of EastEnders
In June 2006, Jo Joyner joined the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. She played the character Tanya Branning. At first, Jo was not sure about taking the role. She worried about working on a soap opera. She also wondered about how famous she would become.
Her role as Tanya was very popular. Jo won the Most Popular Actress award in 2008. This was at the Digital Spy Soap Awards. She also won Best Dramatic Performance at the 2008 British Soap Awards. In 2012, she won Best Actress at the All About Soap Awards. Jo and her co-star Jake Wood also won Best On-Screen Partnership.
Taking a Break and Returning to EastEnders
In 2011, while still on EastEnders, Jo appeared in the comedy-drama Candy Cabs. In 2012, she decided to take a break from EastEnders. She wanted to spend more time with her family. She left the show in June 2013.
Jo returned to EastEnders for special episodes. She came back for the 30th anniversary in February 2015. She also appeared on Christmas Day 2017. These appearances were part of storylines for her TV daughters.
New Roles in Ackley Bridge and Shakespeare & Hathaway
In June 2017, Jo Joyner began playing Mandy Carter. This was in the Channel 4 drama Ackley Bridge. She left the series in 2021.
In February 2018, she started a new role. Jo plays Luella Shakespeare in Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators. She stars alongside Mark Benton in this BBC One comedy-drama.
More recently, Jo has appeared in other shows. In 2021, she was in the Netflix drama Stay Close. In 2022, she starred in the Channel 5 drama Riptide.
