Joane Somarriba Arrola was born on August 11, 1972, in Gernika, Biscay, Spain. She is a famous former Spanish cyclist. Joane was known for her amazing skills in road cycling. She became one of the best female cyclists in the world during her career.
Joane won the Grande Boucle, a very important cycling race, three times. She took home the victory in 2000, 2001, and 2003. She also won a gold medal in the time trial event at the 2003 World Championships in Hamilton, Canada.
She also earned a silver medal in the time trial at the 2005 World Championships in Madrid. In 2002, she won a bronze medal in the road race at the World Championships in Belgium. Joane retired from professional cycling in 2005.
