Joaquim Pina Moura (born February 22, 1952 – died February 20, 2020) was an important Portuguese politician and an expert in economics. He was a member of the Socialist Party, one of Portugal's main political groups.

His Early Life and Education
Joaquim Pina Moura went to the University of Porto in Portugal. He first studied mechanical engineering, which is about designing and building machines. Later, he earned a degree in economics. Economics is the study of how countries manage their money, goods, and services. He also got a special doctorate degree in how money and finances work. He was even a member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which is a bank that helps countries grow their economies.
Becoming a Politician
Pina Moura started his political journey in 1972 when he joined the Portuguese Communist Party. The next year, he became part of the Opposition Congress. This group was part of the Portuguese Democratic Movement, which worked against the old government system called the Estado Novo in Portugal.
In 1995, Pina Moura joined the Socialist Party. This was a big step in his career. In the same year, he became a special helper to the Prime Minister, António Guterres. This job was called Deputy Secretary of State.
Just two years later, in 1997, he was given an even bigger role. He became the Minister of Economy. This meant he was in charge of all things related to Portugal's money and businesses. He also served as a Deputy in the Assembly of the Republic from 1995 until 2007. The Assembly of the Republic is like Portugal's parliament, where laws are made.
His Later Years
Joaquim Pina Moura passed away on February 20, 2020. He was 67 years old.
