Joseph Emmanuel Chealey, born on November 1, 1995, is an American professional basketball player. He recently played for Juventus Utena in Lithuania. Before becoming a pro, he played college basketball for the College of Charleston in South Carolina. Joe grew up in Orlando, Florida, and went to Apopka High School.

Joe's College Basketball Journey

Joe Chealey joined the College of Charleston Cougars in 2013. As a freshman, he was part of the team. After his first season, a new coach, Earl Grant, joined the team. Joe and Coach Grant built a strong connection.

Sadly, Joe missed his junior year of college basketball. He tore his Achilles tendon during one of the first practices. This was a tough injury for him.

When he returned, Joe played really well. As a redshirt junior, he scored about 17.2 points per game. He also made 3.3 assists per game. He was so good that he was named to the First-team All-CAA.

In his senior year, Joe continued to shine. He was one of the top scorers in his conference. He averaged 18.0 points and 3.7 assists per game. For the second year in a row, he was named to the First-team All-CAA.

Joe had an amazing game where he scored 32 points. This helped his team win a big championship game. That win sent his team to the NCAA Tournament. Joe was also named to the CAA All-Tournament team twice. During his college career, Joe averaged 14.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

Joe's Professional Basketball Career

Playing for the Charlotte Hornets (2018–2019)

After college, Joe Chealey was not chosen in the 2018 NBA draft. However, he still got a chance to play. He joined the Charlotte Hornets for their summer league team in 2018.

Later, in July 2018, Joe signed a training camp deal with the Hornets. His contract was then changed to a "two-way contract." This meant he would play for both the Hornets and their minor league team, the Greensboro Swarm.

Joe made his first NBA game appearance on January 30, 2019. He scored two points and had one assist in that game. While playing for the Greensboro Swarm, he averaged 16.35 points and 5.42 assists per game. The Hornets re-signed Joe in August 2019.

Time with the Greensboro Swarm (2019–2020)

In October 2019, Joe was cut from the Hornets' main team. But he quickly rejoined the Greensboro Swarm. He had some great games with the Swarm. In one game, he scored 22 points and had five rebounds and five assists. In another game, he almost got a "triple-double." This means he nearly reached double digits in three different stats. He had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.

During this time with the Swarm, Joe averaged 11.12 points and 4.32 assists per game.

Back with the Charlotte Hornets (2020)

In February 2020, the Charlotte Hornets signed Joe again. He played for them on two different 10-day contracts.
