Joe Harry Lycett (born 5 July 1988) is a British comedian, TV presenter, and artist. He is known for his funny and playful style, his public stunts, and his amazing stage designs. Many people think Joe Lycett is one of the most popular comedians in Britain.
Joe started doing stand-up comedy in 2009. In the same year, he won the Chortle Student Comedian of the Year award. He has been on many TV shows. These include Live at the Apollo and Taskmaster. He was also the presenter for The Great British Sewing Bee on BBC Two. On Channel 4, he presented Joe Lycett's Got Your Back and Late Night Lycett.
In February 2020, Joe briefly changed his name legally to "Hugo Boss". He did this to protest against the fashion company with the same name. Joe is also known for supporting the LGBTQ community. He has often spoken up for LGBTQ+ rights.

Early life
Joe Lycett was born in Hall Green, Birmingham. His parents are David and Helen Lycett. He grew up in Solihull.
He went to King Edward VI Five Ways grammar school. After that, he studied drama and English at the University of Manchester.
Career
Stage comedy
Joe Lycett started his comedy career when he was 22. He performed on stage with comedian Jim Davidson. They became friends while touring together.
In 2015, Joe was performing in York. He got a parking ticket for parking in a taxi spot. He told the story of his letters with the City of York Council on the TV show 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. This story later became one of his most famous stand-up routines.
In June 2022, someone called the police about a joke Joe told at a show in Belfast. The joke was about a donkey. Joe was surprised the police investigated a joke. But he enjoyed telling the police how much he liked the joke. The police later closed the investigation.
Television and video
Joe Lycett has been on many TV shows. These include Live at the Apollo, 8 Out of 10 Cats, and Would I Lie to You?. He was also a regular on the E4 show Dirty Digest. He helped write the narration for The Magaluf Weekender and Ibiza Weekender on ITV2. Joe was a contestant on the fourth series of Taskmaster. He has also appeared on Sunday Brunch many times.
On 12 February 2019, Joe Lycett became the new presenter of The Great British Sewing Bee on BBC Two.
Joe started presenting his show Joe Lycett's Got Your Back. In this show, he helps people deal with big companies. He uses humor to get justice for customers. The show was so popular that it got a second series. Joe says the show is a mix of Rogue Traders and RuPaul's Drag Race.
In 2021, Joe presented a TV documentary called Joe Lycett vs the Oil Giant.
On 4 September 2022, Joe appeared on the first episode of Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg. This show featured an interview with Liz Truss. At the time, she was likely to become the Prime Minister. Joe was asked for his thoughts. He jokingly said he was "very Right-wing" and loved Truss's clear statements. He made a funny comment about her being the "backwash of available MPs". This made the host and other guests laugh. Later, an MP asked the BBC about "the Joe Lycett débacle".
In March 2023, Joe started hosting Late Night Lycett. This is a comedy show with celebrity guests and funny segments. One part of the show involves a celebrity looking after Joe's local shop. Joe then chats live with them from the studio.
Radio and podcasts
Joe Lycett has been a guest on many radio shows. He has been on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 5 Live. In 2011, he wrote a short story called "Spooky and the Van". It was broadcast on BBC Radio 4. In 2013, he first appeared on Just a Minute on BBC Radio 4. In 2016, he became the host of It's Not What You Know on BBC Radio 4.
Joe has also been a guest on many podcasts. These include SoundCheck Podcast and Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast.
From July 2018, there were two series of Joe Lycett's Obsessions on BBC Radio 4.
In 2019, Joe filled in for other presenters on BBC Radio 2. He covered Rylan on Saturday and Sara Cox's drive-time show.
Name change
In February 2020, Joe Lycett changed his name legally to "Hugo Boss". He did this to protest against the fashion company Hugo Boss. The company had sent legal letters to small businesses. These letters claimed the businesses were using the word "Boss" illegally. Joe wanted to show how unfair this was.
In the second series of Joe Lycett's Got Your Back, he held a fake fashion show. It was outside the Hugo Boss store in London. He showed off a wrist brace under the name 'Hugo Boss'. Joe says the company reported this to the police. In April 2020, he changed his name back to Joe Lycett.
Painting
Joe Lycett is also an artist. He taught himself how to paint. His artwork has been shown in exhibitions. In 2018, a sculpture he made, called CHRIS, was accepted by the Royal Academy. It was listed for sale for £12,500,000. CHRIS is still for sale on Joe's website for the same price.
Charity work
In November 2023, a politician said that homelessness was a "lifestyle choice". Joe Lycett then used a picture of pot-pourri to raise money. He raised over £50,000 for Crisis, a charity that helps homeless people.
Awards
In 2009, Joe Lycett won the Chortle Chortle Student Comedian of the Year award. He also won the Bath New Act Competition. He was a runner-up in the 2009 Laughing Horse New Act of the Year. In 2011, he was a finalist in the BBC New Comedy Awards. In 2012, his first stand-up show, Some Lycett Hot, was nominated for Best Newcomer. This was at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards.
In October 2023, Joe won The Comedy Award at the 2023 Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards. In March 2024, he won a BAFTA Television Award. This was for his evening chat show, Late Night Lycett.
Personal life
In an October 2024 interview, Joe Lycett said he has a girlfriend. He calls her "Denise" to keep her out of the public eye. On 25 October 2024, Joe announced that he and "Denise" had welcomed their first son. He was born at Birmingham Women's Hospital.
Joe lives in Birmingham. He also owns a flat in Peckham, south London. In May 2019, Joe asked the Lord Mayor of Birmingham to officially open his new kitchen extension. At first, she said no because it was not a public event. But Joe sold four tickets to the public for the event. Then the Lord Mayor agreed to come.
Joe has supported West Bromwich Albion FC since 2012.
