Joseph Ellison McIntosh (born December 9, 1962) is an American former professional football player. He played as a running back for the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he was picked by the Detroit Lions in the 1985 NFL draft. He played college football at North Carolina State University.

Early Life and High School
Joseph Ellison McIntosh was born on December 9, 1962. His hometown is Lexington, North Carolina. He went to Lexington Senior High School in his hometown.
College Football Career
Joe McIntosh was a key player for the NC State Wolfpack college team. He played for four years, from 1981 to 1984. Being a "letterman" means he played well enough to earn a special award for each year he played.
Freshman Year Success (1981)
In his first year (1981), Joe ran the ball 222 times. He gained an amazing 1,190 yards and scored five touchdowns. Because of his great performance, he was named ACC Rookie of the Year. He also earned a spot on the first-team All-ACC, which means he was one of the best players in the Atlantic Coast Conference. That year, he led the entire ACC in how many times he ran the ball and how many yards he gained. He also caught 11 passes for 97 yards.
Following Seasons (1982-1984)
Joe continued to play well in his college career.
- In 1982, he ran for 780 yards and scored six touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes.
- In 1983, he gained 1,081 yards and scored five touchdowns. He led the ACC in carries again. He also caught 21 passes for 215 yards.
- As a senior in 1984, he ran for 591 yards and scored four touchdowns.

Joining the NFL Draft
The NFL draft is where professional teams pick new players from college. Joe was chosen by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round of the 1985 NFL draft. He was the 118th player picked overall. He officially signed with the Lions in July 1985. However, he was released by the team in August of that year.
Time with the 49ers
Joe then signed with the San Francisco 49ers in January 1986. But he was released by them in July 1986.
Playing for the Falcons
On September 23, 1987, Joe McIntosh signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He played in two games for the Falcons. During these games, he ran the ball five times for 11 yards. He also caught three passes for 15 yards and scored one touchdown. Plus, he returned three kicks for a total of 108 yards. He was released by the Falcons in October 1987.
