Joe Torry is an American comedian, actor, and screenwriter. He is known for his funny stand-up comedy shows. He has also appeared in many movies and TV shows.
Joe is the older brother of another comedian, Guy Torry. Guy created a famous comedy show called Phat Tuesdays. This show started in 1995 and featured many talented African American comedians. It was held at The Comedy Store in Hollywood. Later, in 2022, this live show became a popular Amazon television series.

Joe Torry's Early Life and Career
Joe Torry grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, with his five brothers and sisters. He describes himself as a "military brat," meaning his parent was in the military. Joe found out he was funny at a young age. He loved making people laugh during "show and tell" at school. He soon realized that comedy was his future.
As a child, Joe looked up to famous entertainers like Sammy Davis Jr.. He studied how comedians like Abbott and Costello and Dick Van Dyke made people laugh.
Joe went to Lincoln University. He earned a degree in broadcast journalism and communications. He also received an honorary doctorate for his many years in show business.
Before becoming the host of Def Comedy Jam, Joe Torry became well-known for his stand-up comedy. He also appeared in several films and television shows. Some of his early projects include Dangerous Minds, House Party, Tales from the Hood, and John Singleton's Poetic Justice. He also appeared in TV dramas like NYPD Blue and ER.
