Joel Oulette (born in 2001 or 2002) is a Canadian actor. He is best known for playing the main character, Jared, in the TV show Trickster. Before this big role, he had smaller parts in the TV series Tribal and the movies Parallel Minds and Monkey Beach.
Joel's Early Life
Joel Oulette was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. He has family connections to the Red River Métis Nation and the Cumberland House Cree Nation. These are Indigenous groups in Canada. Joel started acting when he was just five years old. His mother, who was also an actress, encouraged him to try it. He went to Strathmore High School and played football for his school's team, the Spartans.
Joel's Acting Journey
Joel Oulette's acting career began early. In 2007, he was an extra in an HBO TV movie called Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. This was a drama about the old West. In 2018, he had a small role in Alpha, an adventure movie set in ancient times.
He later got a bigger part in the drama film Monkey Beach, which came out in 2020. He also appeared in the TV crime drama series Tribal. In 2020, he played a character named Runaway in the movie Parallel Minds.
In September 2019, Joel was chosen for the main role of Jared in the TV show Trickster. This show is a supernatural thriller drama. It first aired in October 2020. Joel even appeared in a commercial during Hockey Night in Canada to promote the show.
In February 2021, Joel starred in an episode of the Netflix series Two Sentence Horror Stories. He played an Indigenous man who discovers a hidden past during an old West reenactment for his podcast. Also in 2021, he starred as Derrick Desjardins in the thriller movie Abducted. Joel also played Ben Taggart, the main character, in the first season of the TV series Ruby and the Well.
In 2021, Joel was nominated for a Best Actor in a Drama Series for his work in Trickster. This was at the 9th Canadian Screen Awards. In 2022, Joel was cast as Hahn in the live-action TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender. In 2023, Joel competed on The Amazing Race Canada with his sister, Shayla.
