Joseph Michael Kramer (born June 21, 1950) is an American musician. He is famous as the drummer for the hard rock band Aerosmith. Aerosmith joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Kramer was born in the Bronx, New York City. His parents were Doris and Mickey Kramer. His father was a businessman.

Joey Kramer's Music Career
In the early 1970s, Kramer was part of a band called The Institution. This was a garage band from New Jersey. It was started by Philip Rubin, J. Howard Duff, Richie Lester, and Marv Coopersmith. On November 25, 1970, the band Steel Mill, which included Bruce Springsteen, played before The Institution at Newark State College.
Joining Aerosmith
Kramer says he thought of the name Aerosmith in 1968. He was listening to Harry Nilsson's album Aerial Ballet. This was two years before the band officially started. He states that the name has no link to the book Arrowsmith.
Before joining Aerosmith, Kramer moved to Boston. There, he studied at Berklee College of Music. He also played with a band called Chubby & the Turnpikes. This band later changed its name to Tavares.
Books and TV Appearances
Kramer wrote a book about his life called Hit Hard: A Story of Hitting Rock Bottom at the Top. It was released on June 30, 2009.
Joey Kramer also appeared on The Simpsons two times. He was with Aerosmith in the episode "Flaming Moe's" in 1991. He appeared by himself in the episode "The Ned-Liest Catch" in 2011. In 2015, a company called NECA made action figures of Aerosmith members based on The Simpsons.
Other Businesses
In 2013, Kramer started his own coffee brand. It was called Rockin' & Roastin' Coffee. It sold whole bean organic coffee. In 2015, he teamed up with Les Otten. Les Otten used to be a leader for the Boston Red Sox baseball team. They planned to open two Joey Kramer's Rockin' & Roastin' Café and Restaurant places. However, these locations have since closed.
