Joey Stylez released his first studio album, The Blackstar, on November 23, 2009. The album's name comes from his Kookum (grandmother in traditional Plains Cree), Christina (LaPlante) Blackstar. His grandmother was a traditional Plains Cree woman who spoke only Cree and practiced sacred ceremonies.
