Johanna Mikl-Leitner (born on February 9, 1964) is an important Austrian politician. She is a member of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). Since 2017, she has been the governor of Lower Austria. This means she is the head of the government for that state.

Early Life and School
Johanna Leitner was born in Hollabrunn, which is a town in Lower Austria. She grew up in a place called Großharras. She went to primary school there from 1970 to 1974.
After primary school, she attended a grammar school in Laa an der Thaya. This school focused on natural sciences. In 1978, she switched to a business school, also in Laa. She finished her high school exams, called Matura, in 1983. Later, she studied Business Education at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. She earned a Master's degree in Social and Economic Sciences.
Her Career Journey
From 1989 to 1990, Johanna Mikl-Leitner taught at the same business school in Laa an der Thaya where she had studied. After that, she worked as a trainee at the Federation of Austrian Industries until 1993. This organization represents many businesses in Austria.
She then worked for a publishing company until 1995. This was when she started to get involved in politics.
First Steps in Politics
In 1995, she became the marketing manager for the Lower Austrian branch of the ÖVP. By 1998, she became the leader of the party in that region.
Political Roles
Johanna Mikl-Leitner was a member of Austria's national parliament from October 29, 1999, to April 18, 2003. She represented the ÖVP party there.
On March 24, 2003, she joined the government of Lower Austria. She became a Landesrätin, which is like a state minister.
European Role and National Minister
In 2010, she was chosen as the vice president of the Assembly of European Regions. This group helps regions across Europe work together.
On April 21, 2011, Johanna Mikl-Leitner became Austria's Minister of the Interior. This is a very important job, as she was in charge of things like public safety and police. She held this position until April 21, 2016.

Johanna Mikl-Leitner is married and has two daughters. She lives in Klosterneuburg, a town in Lower Austria.
