John Anthony Aniston (born Yannis Anastassakis, July 24, 1933 – November 11, 2022) was a Greek-born American actor. He was best known for his role as Victor Kiriakis on the popular TV show Days of Our Lives. He played this character for a very long time, from July 1985 until his death in 2022, which was 37 years!
For his acting, he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 2017. In 2022, he received a special Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award for his amazing career. John Aniston was also the father of the famous actress Jennifer Aniston.

Early Life and Education
John Aniston was born in Chania, a city on the island of Crete, Greece, on July 24, 1933. His parents were Stella Joanne and Antonios Anastassakis.
When John was two years old, his family moved from Crete to the United States. When they arrived in America, his father changed the family's last name to Aniston to make it sound more American. The family settled in Chester, Pennsylvania, where they ran a restaurant.
John Aniston went to Pennsylvania State University. He earned a degree in theater arts, which helped him become an actor. After college, he joined the United States Navy. He served as an intelligence officer and later became a lieutenant commander in the Reserve.
Acting Career Highlights
John Aniston started his acting career in 1962. One of his first roles was in a TV show called 87th Precinct.
He began acting in soap operas in 1970. His first role on Days of Our Lives was as a character named Eric Richards. Later, in 1975, he joined the cast of Love of Life as Eddie Aleata. He also played Martin Tourneur on Search for Tomorrow from 1980 to 1984.
In July 1985, John Aniston returned to Days of Our Lives. This time, he took on the role of Victor Kiriakis, which became his most famous part. He played Victor Kiriakis continuously for 37 years until he passed away. His performance as Victor earned him a nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2017.
In April 2022, it was announced that John Aniston would receive a special Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award. He received this award on June 18, 2022, celebrating his long and successful career in television.
Besides his soap opera roles, Aniston also appeared in other TV shows. These included Airwolf, Gilmore Girls, The West Wing, and Mission: Impossible. He also made guest appearances on shows like Combat!, Star Trek: Voyager, and Mad Men.
Personal Life
John Aniston had two children. His daughter, Jennifer Aniston, was born in 1969. Her mother was his first wife, Nancy Dow. John also had a son named Alexander with his second wife, Sherry Rooney. He met Sherry while they were both working on the TV show Love of Life.
A fun fact is that Jennifer Aniston's godfather was Telly Savalas, who was one of John's best friends.
John Aniston passed away on November 11, 2022, when he was 89 years old.
