John Bulkeley (born 11 November 1614 – died September 1662) was an English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a main part of the English Parliament, at different times between 1640 and 1662.

Early Life and Education
John Bulkeley was born in 1614. His father was William Bulkeley from Burgate, Hampshire. His mother was Margaret Culliford.
When he was 18, John went to Hart Hall, Oxford, a famous university, in 1632. After that, he studied law at the Middle Temple in 1633. This was a place where people learned to become lawyers. From 1634 to 1637, he traveled in France.
Political Career
John Bulkeley became a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is a person chosen to represent an area in the government.
First Steps in Parliament
In April 1640, John Bulkeley was first elected as an MP for Yarmouth (Isle of Wight). This was for a short meeting of Parliament called the Short Parliament.
Later, in November 1645, he was elected again. This time he represented Newtown in the Long Parliament. This Parliament lasted for a much longer time. However, he was later removed from Parliament during an event called Pride's Purge. This was a time when some members were forced out.
Serving During the Protectorate
England went through some big changes during this time. In 1654, Bulkeley was elected MP for Hampshire. This was for the First Protectorate Parliament. The "Protectorate" was a period when England was not ruled by a king.
He was chosen again for Hampshire in 1656 for the Second Protectorate Parliament. In 1659, he was elected for the Third Protectorate Parliament.
Return of the Monarchy
In 1660, John Bulkeley was again chosen to represent Hampshire. This was for the Convention Parliament. This Parliament helped bring the king back to power.
His last time as an MP was for Lymington. He served in the Cavalier Parliament until he passed away in 1662.
Family Life
John Bulkeley was married three times.
- His first wife was Anne Doddington. They married in 1638 and had two daughters.
- After Anne passed away, he married Elizabeth Trenchard in 1646. She died in 1651.
- In 1652, he married Penelope Trenchard. They had three sons together.
Death
John Bulkeley died in September 1662. He was 47 years old.
